Principal Market Intelligence Analyst

About This Role
About the Role
You will shape multi-million dollar strategic decisions by building the market intelligence engine that informs our executive team's competitive positioning and market expansion plans. This is not a report-writing role — you will architect proprietary intelligence frameworks that synthesize disparate data sources into contrarian insights that challenge assumptions and reveal hidden opportunities. Operating at principal-level autonomy, you will define what questions the business should be asking, not just answer the ones it poses.
Our Stack
- Analytics & Modeling: SQL · Python/R · Tableau · Power BI for building custom market models and executive dashboards
- Data Infrastructure: Snowflake data warehouse integrating syndicated research (Gartner, Forrester), CRM data, web analytics, and primary research outputs
- Research Platforms: Gartner Peer Insights · G2 · TrustRadius · internal competitive intelligence database
- Tooling: Jupyter notebooks for exploratory analysis · Git for version-controlling analytical frameworks · Confluence for publishing strategic intelligence
What You'll Do
- Architect and maintain proprietary market intelligence frameworks that integrate syndicated research, primary data, competitive intelligence, and macroeconomic trends into unified strategic models
- Translate complex market dynamics into clear, evidence-based strategic recommendations that directly influence C-suite decisions on product roadmap, market entry, and competitive positioning
- Drive the vision and methodology for the intelligence function, establishing analytical standards and tooling strategy that scale as the organization grows
- Build advanced statistical models using Python/R to identify market patterns, quantify opportunity sizing, and forecast competitive threats before they materialize
- Present contrarian or ambiguous insights to senior stakeholders with precision and conviction, defending analytical rigor while remaining open to strategic debate
- Mentor junior analysts on research methodology, analytical frameworks, and translating data into executive-ready intelligence
- Partner with Strategy, Product, Sales, and Marketing leadership to proactively surface insights that reshape thinking, not reactively fulfill data requests
What We're Looking For
- 8-10 years of experience in market research, competitive intelligence, or strategic analytics - with demonstrated progression from executing research to shaping strategic narratives that influence executive decisions
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and at least one statistical programming language (Python or R) - you've built custom analytical models, not just run canned reports
- Hands-on experience with modern BI platforms (Tableau, Power BI, or Looker) - creating executive dashboards that distill complex market dynamics into actionable insights
- Deep familiarity with syndicated market research platforms (Gartner, Forrester, Nielsen, IDC, or similar) - you know how to extract signal from these sources and synthesize them with primary research
- Proven ability to design and execute primary research initiatives - surveys, expert interviews, win/loss analysis - and translate qualitative insights into quantitative frameworks
- Track record of translating complex data into strategic recommendations for C-suite audiences - your work has directly informed product strategy, market entry decisions, or competitive positioning
- Strong analytical rigor combined with business intuition - you apply structured frameworks but know when to challenge assumptions and propose novel approaches
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Business, or related quantitative field (or equivalent experience building market intelligence functions)
Nice to Have
- Experience building proprietary market intelligence frameworks or data products - competitive battlecards, market sizing models, or early-warning systems that became institutional assets
- Familiarity with data warehouse platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and modern data stack tools for integrating disparate data sources at scale
- Prior experience mentoring junior analysts or leading cross-functional intelligence initiatives - you've shaped how teams think about markets
